TALYGARN MANOR

A print of an oil painting by Mandy Davies.

Talygarn Manor was purchased by George Clark in 1865, the Master of the Dowlais Ironworks, near Merthyr, South Wales. Clark was an engineer, working with Brunel in the Industrial Revolution, he was a historian, art lover with a passion for Interior Design, he renovated the Manor and employed many Italian artists to create beautiful features of the interior to be enjoyed for centuries to come.

In the early 1900’s, The Manor was sold by Clark’s grandson and it then became a rehabilitation Centre for the Miners of the South Wales Collieries and later sold for redevelopment into apartments in 2001.

The original oil painting was gifted to the Chair of the Talygarn Residents Association on her Retirement in 2019.
